The Love First Project

Picture
Grace Episcopal Church on Martha's Vineyard is excited to engage in The Love First Project "a children's ministry for the whole church." Program developer Colette Potts, from St. Barnabas Episcopal Church, Falmouth has created a framework for intergenerational, community engagement for children, families and the whole church. Sunday School Project - The Prayer Window

Childrens' Chapel Reading List for Spring, 2019

This book tells the Easter story from a new and unusual point of view. Children will be deeply touched as they understand, perhaps for the first time, the significance of Christ’s life and his atoning sacrifice on the cross.
This story takes place through the 40 days of Lent and tells of Kevin's transformation into one of Ireland's best-loved saints after he learned an unforgettable lesson from an unlikely teacher--a blackbird who built a nest in his hand.
This book presents Lent as a special time for creating a welcoming space for God. Make Room uniquely connects its projects to the story of Jesus. Simple and practical activities such as baking bread, having a neighbor over for dinner, uncluttering your room, and watching less TV become acts of justice and kindness, part of a life of following and imitating Christ, and a way to make room for God in our lives and in the world around us.
Grounded in the Episcopal liturgical tradition, this is an ideal book to read with children to wonder and learn about baptism, with illustrations that reflect the diversity of God's people. A family section offers questions and suggests ways to go deeper in conversation about baptism, making it a great resource.

Grace Church's children are actively involved in the parish.
Our Children’s Ministry is here to serve children, youth, and families of Grace. Its mission is to engage children in a loving, nurturing church community and to engage whole families in a community of faith. It is to provide spiritual formation opportunities for both children and parents, and to be cognizant of opportunities for children and families to play valuable roles in the church. The children’s program is led by Leigh Ann Yuen and runs year-round during the 10:00AM service.

Throughout the year we invite families to Grace community activities such as ice cream socials, our annual “blessing of the backpacks” at the start of each new school year and Prayer Hikes through woodland trails to a lovely beach.
We have a number of children participating as acolytes; we would love to have other children join, so that they can learn and participate in important roles during the service.
