Grace Church is installing outdoor seating for meditation, worship, and community events in its playground and upgrading and improving its play area for children under 5 years in order to broaden our appeal to the Vineyard Community.
The outdoor seating is planned to be in the shape of a small amphitheater at the south end of the playground with a stage area for worship services, music, theater, and community events. The amphitheater will be built as a series of stepped stone half circular sitting walls facing a ground level stage area just outside the parish buildings and Grace Church.
The children’s playground area, with input from Project Headway Staff, will include a digging area, a slide built in conformity with the shape of the land, a tire swing, and a small climbing dome, linked by a bike path, all intended to promote the development of the imagination and imaginative play.
The entire project is being built and landscaped by Vineyard Gardens, located in West Tisbury.
Inspiration and funding for this project comes from the Spear Family in honor and memory of Gail Spear, a former community leader, French teacher, advocate for church and community integration, and former member of Grace Church.
